Compatibility and efficiency of preservatives in emulsive cosmetics containing high surfactant content

The objective of this study was to determine the influence nonionic surfactants on effectiveness preservatives used in emulsions containing high surfactant content. Mixtures different concentrations were prepared between polyethoxylated (40) hydrogenated castor oil (PHCO) and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (PSO), with methylparaben, phenoxyethanol, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben (PMEPBI) blend, phenoxyethanol benzoic acid (BP) caprylyl glycol (PC) blend. Subsequently, compatibility formulation ingredients evaluated by challenge test. It found that PHCO PSO inactivated antimicrobial action methylparaben PMEPBI. Paraben-free BP PC had less than systems parabens. When incorporated into microemulsions nanoemulsions 40% 20% surfactants, 0.2% 0.5% only effective against Aspergillus niger. PMEPBI as a preservative nanoemulsified formulations A. niger, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus. results demonstrate efficacy system excipients depends type excipient, components formulation, composition, excipient ratio, availability formulation.
